I went to Scoresby Sund for mountains, icebergs, and auroras dancing in the fjords. In the wilderness of East Greenland, these were in abundance. Midway through the journey aboard MS Polarfront however, the ship — a forty-six year old former meteorological vessel — experienced a catastrophic and disabling engine failure. The remote wilderness and looming icebergs suddenly meant something very different: we were stuck, with the nearest assistance 700km and days away in Iceland. From this moment my focus shifted from the landscape, to the activity aboard Polarfront; capturing the stories of her crew as they prepared for, and began, the long tow home.
