THIS WEEKS SPOTLIGHT:

Sharilyn Neidhardt

When did you start taking pictures? shooting film? tell us your story!

I got a Kodak camera that took 126 cartridges when i was about 9 years old. Even then I was a little mad at how expensive it was to develop film! I'm a painter and I've long taken photos as reference. In 2016, I started shooting with a Fujifilm XT2 which facilitates double exposures. In 2020, I started taking double exposures with a Lomo LCA+ and a host of other cheap European cameras. I've continued to use the photos as reference material in my painting practice.

How do your friends describe your work?

Complicated and cinematic, describing the elation and isolation of urban life

What's your favorite thing about being a BCD/SHIM member so far? least favorite?

Tell us about the work you're submitting, is this part of a series or a broad sampling? Was all this work done in a short burst or sporadically over years or something else? If this is a series what's the narrative?

the double exposure images are meant to mimic diplopia, the scientific name for 'seeing double'. Most people experience this while extremely intoxicated. I have been sober for 9 years, but i miss the clarity and confusion of this altered state.

ell us something completely random that we wouldn't otherwise know about you or your work.

Being tall is a disadvantage in shooting street photography
